Each student will read at home for a minimum of 20 minutes each day.
Parents/students will report daily reading using a paper calendar or the Beanstack app.
Home activities or challenges may be assigned to increase academic achievement on the most important learning goals.
Teachers will inform parents when these activities or challenges are assigned.
Teachers will ensure these activities take a minimal amount of time at home and can be accomplished independently.*
Teachers will provide adequate time at school for students who use their time and tools wisely to complete daily assignments/work.
Teachers will provide support for students that struggle to complete work in class.
Incomplete work MAY be sent home to complete based on specific needs.
Additional resources for practice and independent work will be located on each grade’s classroom page on the Orchard Springs Elementary website.
Students who are absent will work at home to complete assignments/work missed while absent.
*While homework in primary grades can have some positive effects when carefully implemented, its overall impact on student achievement is relatively modest compared to other educational factors. Research underscores the importance of considering the quality and purpose of homework assignments rather than relying solely on the quantity assigned. [Hattie, J. (2009).
