National School Lunch Program (2022-2023)

What is Happening

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) waiver that provided free meals to students expired May 27, 2022.

This means school meals will no longer automatically be free for everyone and families will need to apply to qualify for free/reduced breakfast and lunch.

Who Does This Affect

  • Households with students enrolled in schools with the NSLP who were receiving free meals due to COVID-19.

Ways to Qualify For Free or Reduced Meals

  • Household Size and Income
  • If you are taking part in assistance programs such as:
    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
    • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
    • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
    • Or if you are experiencing homelessness, are a migrant, or a runaway.

Next Steps

  • Watch for the 2022-2023 School Meals Application from the Weber School District
  • Submit your application for free and reduced-priced meals.
  • If you do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals, they are available at the paid-rate.  Schools do their best to provide low-cost, nutritious meals to students using state and federal funding.

*Remember that households must apply every year to confirm eligibility for free and reduced meals.
