Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are so excited to begin the Orchard Springs Elementary Choir. Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades are invited to participate. Choir will begin Tuesday, October 1, 2019.  Choir will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30 a.m.-8:15 a.m. at Silver Ridge Elementary.  Parents will need to transport students to Silver Ridge for rehearsals.  Mrs. Williams has made arrangements for 6th grade students to be bussed to Farr West Elementary after rehearsals.  When the school is completed, rehearsals will move to Orchard Springs. Choir registration forms will be sent home this week, and will need to be returned by Friday, September 27th.

Our theme for our fall/winter performance is Around the World at Christmas Time.  We will be celebrating different cultures and share how Christmas is celebrated around the world.  Our emphasis is on choral singing. We will learn how movement, choreography, and instruments can enhance the performance.

The cost will be $30 for the entire year or $15 per session (Fall and Spring).  Scholarships are available. Please contact Mrs. Jenkins or Mrs. Williams for more information.

Student Objectives

  • I can find joy through music.
  • I can work with others to perform.
  • I can perform a varied repertoire of music.

About Our Director

I have been an elementary teacher for 9 years.  As a child, I performed with my family and the community in several musical and choral productions.  Later, I was a member of Showtime Company from Ricks College, a musical performing group which traveled to twenty-five states in the U.S.  I directed a children’s performing group in Cache Valley for 8 years. I have previously taught elementary choirs at Lomond View Elementary (9 years), and Polk Elementary (2 years).  I have also taught private piano and vocal lessons for 25 years. My goal as musical director of the choir is to create an inviting choir culture that is inclusive for all students.

One of my favorite quotes is this:  “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”---Plato

I look forward to teaching your child and helping them learn the power of music!

Sincerely,

Mary Jo Williams, Principal
