On our school website, under the Parents tab, there is a tag for Counseling Resources. In that tag you will find links for community resources, as well as social-emotional resources you can use at home with your family. Over the past few weeks we have been working on unit 3 - Emotion Management. All students were taught and have been practicing calming down, keeping our actions in control, and choosing helpful strategies when we experience strong emotions. As there is a high probability your children will be experiencing some strong emotion (fear, anxiety, worry, confusion) over current events, I encourage you to remind them of the strategies they have been practicing, and perhaps have them teach you the steps they have learned and sing the “calm it down” song for you. There are grade-level specific activities available through the posted resources, and a link for the SEL Parent Portal with additional ideas and activities. I have also attached some resources below you may find helpful.

SAMHSA Coping with Stress During an Infectious Disease Outbreak (pdf)

Child Mind Institute Talking to Kids About the Coronavirus

National Association of School Psychologists Talking to Children About COVID-19: A Parent Resource (pdf)

I will not be returning to school until the fall, as I will be starting maternity leave, but please know I am still available to help with any concerns you may have. I will be checking my email daily and will continue to be in frequent contact with Mrs. Williams and classroom teachers. Your kids are always a high priority for me and I will continue to support them and you any way I can.
