Notes from the Principal. A picture of a pen and ink.

Dear Orchard Springs Parents & Families,

The last few days have been a flurry of activity.  Much time has been spent by many to work through numerous details necessary for the start of the school year.  I would like to share some of this information now.

The response from the neighboring schools has been overwhelming.  They have expressed in so many different ways how eager they are to welcome and assist our teachers and students.  Their greatest desire is that our students, parents, staff, and faculty have a positive experience.

Our students will be attending the following schools.  Parents and students are invited to attend Back-to-School Night at their host school.

  • Kindergarten- North Ogden Elementary
    • Back-to-School Night, Friday, August 16, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • 1st Grade- Plain City Elementary
    • Back-to-School Night, Thursday, August 15, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
  • 2nd Grade -West Weber Elementary
    • Back-to-School Night, Monday, August 19, 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades -Silver Ridge Elementary
    • Back-to-School Night, Thursday, August 15, 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
  • 6th Grade-Farr West Elementary
    • Back-to-School Night, Thursday, August 15, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

Transportation to these schools is being provided by the school district.

  • Students will walk to their local bus stop.
    • A map of the stops and the times will be emailed next week. (The stops will be some of the stops already used by the school district.)
    • A map of the bus stops and times will be posted on the school website in the next week.
    • A map will also be posted at Back-to-School Night locations.  We encourage you to use your personal device to take a picture.
  • Each grade will be assigned to a bus, the busses will be clearly marked, and each bus will stop at each bus stop.  Students will ride this bus to and from school.
    • It is anticipated the longest any student will be on the bus is about 20 minutes.
    • Students that eat breakfast at school will eat breakfast when they arrive.
  • For the first week of school, first through sixth grade teachers will be riding the bus with the students to and from school.
    • Please note this means teachers will not be in their classrooms immediately before and after school during the first week.
    • If you would like to accompany your student on the first day of school, we ask that you drop them at the bus stop and then meet the bus to the school.
  • For kindergarten, which starts on August 27th, an aide will ride the bus with the students to and from school.  This allows the teacher to meet parents and students at North Ogden Elementary. For the rest of the first week, a teacher will ride the bus with the students on the way to school and an assigned aide will ride the bus with the students on the way home from school.

On Tuesday, myself and the office staff will be relocating to Silver Ridge Elementary.  Our school phone number, 801-395-5650, should be activated midweek. Until that time, please call Silver Ridge Elementary at 801-395-5610.

I met today with faculty and staff and they are committed to providing the best possible experience for each student.

I would like to express my appreciation for your patience and support as we work through this unique situation.  I will share more details as they are finalized. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.

Professionally,

Mary Jo Williams, Principal
Orchard Springs Elementary
